Flying Eagles Annihilate Black Satellites

Flying Eagles of Nigeria played a spirited game to beat their arch rivals, Black Satellites of Ghana 2-0 in a friendly soccer match at the Tema Sports Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Flying Eagles who played a constructive and attacking football went into the game with determination led in attack by Taiwo Awoniyi who brought great pressure on the Black Satellites for a greater part of the game.

Both sides fielded strong line ups and wanted a morale boosting win after the first of the two series tune games ended 2-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Chidera Ezeh was expectedly ruled out of the game through an injury he sustained on Monday, with Usman Sale take his place in the starting XI.

Ghana appeared to be the better side in the first stanza but they failed to convert begging chances that came their way.

In the second half the Flying Eagles attacked the hosts and showed willingness to win the encounter.

Match referee penalised Yakubu Mohammed for handling the ball in the box in the 68th minute.

Flying Eagles skipper Musa Mohammed made no mistake from the spot as he dispatched his effort into the net twenty minutes to the end of the match.

Ghana made frantic efforts to equalise but try as they did they could not find the net.

In the dying moments, Flying Eagles midfielder, Ifeanyi Matthew finished a brilliant move started by Taiwo Awoniyi.


Nigeria will play Congo, Cote d’Ivoire and hosts Senegal for the 8-25 March tournament.

Ghana’s starting XI: Mutawakilu Siedu-Kingsley Fobii, Patrick Asmah, Yakubu Mohammed, Stephen Anokye Badu, Paul Quaye, Richard Donkor, Yaw Yeboah, Isaac Quansah, Issah Abbas, Samuel Afful.

Nigeria’s starting XI: Olorunleke Ojo -Musa Mohammed, Samuel Okon, Izu Omego, Abdul Ganiyu, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Akinjide Idowu, Obinna Nwobodo, Musa Yahaya, Taiwo Awoniyi, Usman Hassan.
