Ezekiel Inspires Standard Liege To League Victory

One cap Super Eagles forward Imoh Ezekiel scored once in the first half to lead Standard Liege to a 3-0 win over Mouscron-Peruwelz in a Belgian Jupiler League week 20 encounter at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne on Friday night.

Standard Liege started to dominate possession from the blast of the whistle, and goalkeeper Pierrick Cros was called into action in the Mouscron goal before five minutes.

The hosts continued to look dangerous, and managed to break the deadlock just ten minutes into the game when Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez unleashed the curtain raiser.

Ezekiel, who is on-loan from Al Arabi until the end of the season, fired in the second eleven minutes later.

The hosts finished the half in emphatic style, as Igor de Camargo fired in the third goal of the game.

However, Ezekiel couldn't finish the game as he made way for Jeff Louis nine minutes after the hour mark.

The result moves Standard Liege to 3rd spot on the league ladder, while Mouscron sit thirteenth.

Ezekiel joined Standard Liege from 36 Lions in 2012. He played 91 games and scored 32 goals for the Rouches in just over two and a half seasons before being transferred to Al-Arabi SC at the end of July 2014.

The player whose move to Qatar was widely criticized by football pundits, hit the net just seven times since his €8m summer transfer to Al Arabi.

He earned his first Super Eagles cap in the 0-0 draw with Mexico in an international friendly match after coming on as a second-half substitute for Victor Moses.
