Super Eagles forward stabs Chelsea with late goal

A goal five minutes from time courtesy of Nigerian Victor Anichebe robbed Chelsea of three points as they played to a 1-1 draw against West Brom in a Barclays Premiership match at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night.

The result still sees Chelsea at the top of the league table with 57 points, two clear of second placed Arsenal who play on Wednesday.

Chelsea dominated the match for the large part, but were unable to make all their possession count as they squandered scoring opportunities in the final third.

The first real chance of the game fell to Willian in the 27th minute, but his effort from 25-yards out skimmed the wrong side of the post.

Chelsea continued to press forward after that, but struggled to break down a stubborn West Brom defence until seconds before the half time break.

In added time of the first half Chelsea finally found their break through when Branislav Ivanovic tapped the ball home from a couple yards out after latching onto a David Luiz flick on, 1-0.

The second half was certainly more entertaining with Willian playing Samuel Eto’o through on goal four minutes after the restart, but the striker fired straight at the keeper who made a good save.

Willian was in the thick of the action again on the hour mark when he fired goalwards from 30-yards, but saw his swerving effort superbly saved by Ben Foster.

Ten minutes later a swift counter-attack saw Willian through on goal, but with just the keeper to beat he shot straight into Fosters arms.

Then, five minutes from time and very much against the run of play, West Brom stole a point when Anichebe headed home a Berahino cross, 1-1.
