Mrs Kate Imasuagbon, wife of the sponsor
of the annual Kenneth Imasuagbon Football Competition for secondary
schools in the FCT, on Thursday called for more women participation in
sports.
Imasuagbon told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that
women’s participation in sports, especially football, would keep them
fit and healthy to properly cater for their chores.
``A healthy mother makes healthy babies and healthy babies make
healthy communities and healthy communities make a healthy nation,’’ she
said.
Imasuagbon told NAN that she undertook a research on the level of
male and female participation in sports and discovered that the ratio
was too low against women.
``The result of the study showed that the girl-child has more
tendencies to put on weight, by their biological build-up and weight
attracts sicknesses and diseases.
``So, what that tells me is that I need to be healthy to build my home, community and the nation,’’ she said.
Imasuagbon said it was exciting that girls were becoming more
active in football, as seen in the just-concluded Kenneth Imasuagbon
Football Competition which had male and female participants.
She, therefore, urged more women to join in taking active part in
sports, saying ``it is a way of becoming healthier and building a
stronger nation’’.
