Effiong's reputation soars in Malta, as Ohawuchi catapult Sliema to cup semis

Former Bayelsa United striker Stanley Ohawuchi scored in the opening 15 minutes as Sliema Wanderers grabbed a 2-0 victory over Division One side Pietà Hotspurs in the quarter-final of the Malta FA Cup.

Mark Scerri and Stanley Ohawuchi were on target for the Blues who looked set for an easy win but Pietà improved sufficiently to create a series of attacks but wasteful finishing killed their hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the KO competition.

Sliema will meet Qormi in the semis after the latter knocked out Birkirkara.

Effiong enhanced his growing reputation as one of the best in Malta, having scored for Qormi in a Malta FA Cup 3-1 win Premier league leader Birkirkara.

Shola Shodiya provided the assist that resulted in Birkirkara's only goal.
