Chelsea forced to a draw at Hawthorns, as Southampton grab slim win

Tuesday was not the most exciting of nights in the English Premier League with only five goals scored across four games with only Southampton and West Ham United winning.

Goals were hard to come by on the night and that was none more evident than in the 0-0 stalemate between Cardiff and Aston Villa.

With Cardiff having conceded 44 goals this season in the league, the second most of any team and currently occupying second from bottom on the log, many though Villa would walk this one, but it was not to be.

Instead it was a dreary goalless draw that leaves Cardiff only two pints off the bottom of the table on 22, two clear of 18th placed Sunderland while Villa sit in 11th place on 28 points.

A little better on the night was Southampton’s 1-0 win over Hull City.

Jose Fonte scored the only goal of the game in the 69th minute to see his side move up to eighth on the table, only two points behind seventh placed Manchester United.

For Hull, the loss sees them drop down to 13th place on 27 points, only four points shy of the relegation zone.

West Ham left it till late to beat Norwich with goals from James Collins in the 84th minute and Mohamed Diame in the 94th minute handing the London-based club a 2-0 win.

The three points sees West Ham into tenth place on the table with 28 points while Norwich dropped to 16th on 25 points.

The game of the evening was expected to be the match between West Brom and Chelsea, but while it did not produce many goals it certainly produced some late drama.

A goal five minutes from time courtesy of Victory Anichebe saw West Brom salvage a late 1-1 draw.

The result sees West Brom briefly out of the relegation zone in 17th place on 24 points while Chelsea top the standings on 57 points, two clear of Arsenal.

The results:
Cardiff City 0 - 0 Aston Villa
Hull City 0 - 1 Southampton
West Ham United 2 - 0 Norwich City
West Bromwich Albion 1 - 1 Chelsea
