In its bid to make sure League matches in the Nigeria Premier League are
played on befitting and up to standard pitches, the League management
company has sent some staffs and officials to inspect pitches set to be
used by the 20 premier league teams campaigning in the Nigeria top
flight.
Pitch inspection has usually been the norm before a football season begin in Nigeria but most of the time the gains are hardly seen as bad pitches ends up been giving approval to host league matches but a staff of the LMC who is a part of the pitch inspection team told a top voice that won't be the case this time around.
" Not at all, no compromise, we have been directed to give reports, recommendations and views without fear of favour and that is what we'll do, we know of the ills of the past how clubs cut corners to get bumpy and patchy pitches approved for league game but this is a break from the norm of the past, we are a new board and a body with a vision to change things for the better, it’s either clubs provide good pitches or they risked been moved to a venue with a pitch befitting for premier league football in Nigeria."
He however noted that some clubs who might fall short of the pitch requirement will be given opportunity to upgrade the facility and if the LMC find it worthy they will consider taking them back to their home ground before the league ends from their temporary venue.
The LMC pitch inspection team will conclude their inspection this week and make recommendations before the league commences in a fortnight.
