A late fight back by Sunshine Stars ensured they earned a thrilling 3-2
win against an impressive ten-man Warri Wolves at the Akure Township
Stadium on Sunday evening.
Josiah Maduabuchi drew the curtain raiser for the visitors 3 minutes into the game. It was a well powered effort which Ikechukwu Ezenwa had no clue to.
The homers must have been on the end of a verbal bashing from manager Henry Abiodun at half-time as they came out a different side after the break.
They belatedly showed the passion their play had been missing in the first half and were rewarded when former Shooting Stars striker Kingsley Eduwo did enough to bundle the ball across the line in the opening minutes of the second half.
The introduction of Gbolahan Salami in place of Austine Amutu added more bite to Wolves' attacking system. They took the lead through a well taken Michael Egbeta's stunning free-kick from the edge of the box which sailed past Ezenwa.
Sunshine had gone into the match with the luxury of their key players and Eduwo had a big impact in the match with his all-round performance.
Eduwo had drifted in from the wing, with the Seasider’s defence sleeping, he sent an unmarked Dele Olorundare through with a teasing cross in the 85th minute. The fans enjoyed every bit of the action and urged the Akure Gunners to get the winning goal.
The goal lifted Sunshine, while having the reverse effect on the visitors and the Gunners capitalised by extending their lead through the outstanding Eduwo. Cameroonian import Termen Medrano floated in a cross which Eduwo nods away.
However, Sunshine Stars had enough grit to hold Warri Wolves at arm's length for another home win of the Premier League season.
