The Nigerian women national team will not go on Easter break; neither will the players
be released for this weekend matches for their respective clubs.
Chief Coach of the Falcons Edwin Okon who disclosed this said that there was still much to do that they cannot risk allowing the players to go on Easter break with an international friendly game coming up on April 29.
"There will be no Easter break for any one of us. We shall all do the Easter on the pitch because we want to focus on the matches ahead of us. No player will be released to their club nor be allowed to go on any break,” Okon stated.
"We would perhaps only go on break after the friendly match against Cameroon. We hope to use the Easter break to strategize and perfect plans for the matches ahead," said the Rivers Angel coach.
He expressed joy at the response of the girls to training over the past three weeks pointing out that having screened and assessed the players over a period, he is now in a position to pick the quality ones then settle down to blending and tactics.
The former Falconets gaffer also disclosed that he is elated that the team is gradually taking shape adding by the time they square up with the Indomitable Lioness he would know how far they have progressed.
"I promised Nigerians that I will build a new Super Falcons and that is why I am happy that we have to play Cameroon before taking on Rwanda in African Women championship (AWC) qualifier. The match will be used to see how they fit into match situations, team work and coordination," he continued.
Meanwhile all the players who were released to play for their respective clubs last week returned to camp on schedule and this drew commendation from coach Okon who said: "My happiness is that none of them came back with any injury."
