Confluence Queens continued their bid for the Nigeria Women Premier League title with a 2-1 win over high-flying Pelican Stars.
Aishat Bello who has one of the shinning lights in the new season netted her third league goal in 5 starts to hand Confluence Queens a comeback win.
The skillful lad proved herself against a more experienced side which paraded Alaba Jonathan, Lovina Okafor, Victoria Aidelomon, Winifred Eyebhoria, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Esther Sunday and Amarachi Orjinma.
The former champions took the lead when Amarachi skillfully beat the workaholic Windapo Tobi to slot past Mercy Vincent in the 56th minute.
Two minutes later, the hardworking Chioma Wogu levelled matters for the hosts against the run of play.
A moment of hesitation in the away side's defence line resulted in the second goal. A left-wing cross wasn't well dealt with - and the dangerous Aishat was too motivated to put her team ahead in the 62nd minute.
The 2-1 setback was Pelican Stars' first league defeat of the season.
"We might have lost to Confluence Queens our title hopes still remains intact," Pelican Stars gaffer Sanusi Muritala Olalekan said.
"I am satisfied with the performance of my wards, I believe they will get better against Nasarawa Amazons in Lafia," Confluence Queens head coach Adamu Suleiman disclosed.
"God knows the reason why we lost. We are already looking forward to the next two matches against Ibom Angels and Rivers Angels. The team should come back stronger in the fixtures," Chinwendu Ihezuo posited.
