Nigeria finished third at the 2015 African Beach Soccer Championship after the Supersand Eagles thumped Cote d’Ivoire 9-1.
Warri Wolves’ striker Abu Azeez weighed in with a hat -trick, as the irrepressible Emeka Ogbonna earned another brace, as did Bartholomew Ibenegbu. Captain Isiaka Olawale and Losaka Junior scored a goal each.
During the group phase, the Supersand Eagles needed overtime to edge the Ivorians 7-6 at the Roche Caiman Sports Complex. But it was all free -flowing for the Nigerians on Sunday.
However, third place guaranteed nothing more than bronze, as the 2011 World Cup quarter –finalists will not be in Portugal for this year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
