Amao Leads Three Other Referees To Abidjan

Joshua Opeyemi Amao and three other Nigerian referees are off to Abidjan for this weekend’s CAF Confederation Cup second round, second leg match between ASEC Mimosas and visiting Onze Createurs at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.

Amao will be Referee, while Peter Elgam Edibi, Abel Baba and Abubakar Ago will serve as 1st Assistant, 2nd Assistant and Reserve Referee respectively.

The quartet will work with former FIFA referee Mohamed Guezzaz from Morocco, who will be Match Commissioner.

Only on Tuesday, the quartet of Benjamin Odey, Usman Isah, Efosa Celestine Igudia and Henry Ogunyamodi returned from Tamale, Ghana where they scored high marks in the handling of African U-23 Championship qualifier between Ghana and Liberia, which the Meteors won 2-0.

Also this weekend, Uloma Nwogu, Mimisen Iyorhe, Bosede Momoh and Hadiza Musa will take charge of an African qualifier for the Women’s Football Tournament of the 2016 Olympics, between Cameroon and Liberia senior women teams in Yaounde.

FIFA Technical Advisor and NFF Consultant on Refereeing, Mr. Linus Mba said on Wednesday: “Our referees now have an improved profile. I can tell you that the capacity enhancing programmes of the Nigeria Football Federation has raised our referees’ profile and consideration for them is much better.”

Also this weekend, former NFF president Dominic Obukadata Oneya will be Match Commissioner for the CAF Confederation Cup second round, second leg match between Hearts of Oak and Djoliba of Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Porcupines earned a 2-1 away win in Bamako penultimate weekend.
