Former
Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu has said the Eagles must have a
solid first team and a solid back up if they are to return to the
heights of achievements.
The former Nigeria captain says the task ahead of Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi is enormous now, and for the country to return to winning ways, there must be a solid first team and then a very good back up.
“If you check the most successful teams in the world, they don’t achieve success by accident, they do that with proper work.
“They always have very strong first teams and very good back up teams as well. Even in our case, if you check the times we have been successful, we have had a very solid first team and a good back up.
“This is one of the things I think Keshi will have to do this time because everybody is expecting. I believe he can do it because he has done it before. Getting a strong team isn’t easy but I think he can do it,” he said.
Speaking further, Chukwu explained how Keshi can go about building a very strong team.
“I say this always, if we are to get back where we were, we must pay more attention to the league.
Check our most successful years, and you’ll see there was a good blend of local and overseas based players, just like it was in 2013 when we won the AFCON,” he stated.
