Ill-tempered match end in draw

Warri Wolves missed the chance to go two minutes within the top spot of the Nigeria Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw by off-form Enyimba International at the Warri City Stadium today.

Paul Aigbogun's side dropped points at home for only the first time this season and are now four points behind leaders Akwa United.

The Seasiders and the People's Elephants both had a man sent off at the end of a bad-tempered 0-0 draw in Warri.

Wolves have developed a knack of grinding out 1-0 victories from similarly uninspiring matches this season, but this time their goal touch deserted them.

The away team barely tested the home side's defence in the first half, while the homers, led by Gbolahan Salami, created a string of chances. They were brighter after the interval and came close to breaking the deadlock from a swift counter-attack after 55 minutes.

It was a frustrating end to the afternoon for the homers, who should have had all three points after dominating the match.

Today's draw might make the management of Enyimba hand over the permanent role of the head coach to Imama Amapakabo, who led the team in the absence of Zachary Baraje and Monday Odigie, both on suspension for non-performance.
