Anyansi passes vote of confidence on Enyimba

Enyimba International Chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu has rallied behind players and officials of the club after Sunday’s shock home defeat to neighbours Abia Warriors.

Anyansi showed support and solidarity, expressing reassurance that he and the rest of the club’s management will remain strongly behind the team despite the setback of losing at home so early in the season.

In a meeting held at the club’s ground on Monday evening, Anyansi Agwu surprised many when he dismissed all talks of firing any member of the technical crew or placing sanctions on the team.

This is not a time to express anger, this is not a time to make threats or give ultimatums. This is not a time for sanctions, either. What this is, is a time for us to stand united and recommit ourselves to the tasks ahead of us.

In football these things happen and we must not let the result of one bad day change the course of our season. We are a much bigger club, a more mature club than that and we must show it in how we deal with this home defeat. I know we all are still hurting from the result of the game but that is in the past now, we simply have to reassert our superiority by getting positive results.

Cletus Itodo struck the decisive blow against his old club in the 36th minute to hand the six-time champions their first league defeat in Aba since February 2008 but Anyansi Agwu has called for calm.

I want to assure everyone here that your jobs are not under threat. No coach is going to be fired. No player will be sanctioned. We are a family and we must act like one. We must be united and we must continue to stand strong. Without unity, we will achieve nothing so it is important for everyone here to feel safe and confident with the knowledge that we are together in this race. I believe that with your quality, we can achieve historic feats at the end of the season, regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s match.

What matters now is how we finish the season, but for us to finish it well we must begin now. We must learn great lessons from this defeat and move on and do the right things in the next games we play. Our fans around the world are disappointed and we must restore their faith us by winning our next games. Our focus must not change, it must remain on the ultimate prize at the end of the season.
