Former Abia Warriors head coach, Emeka Ezeugo is certain that Stephen
Okechukwu Keshi will find solution to the Super Eagles' defensive woes in the build up to
the World Cup in Brazil.
The ex-international revered for his ‘destroyer‘ role under Dutchman Clemence Westerhorf, pointed out that as a former defender himself, Keshi was in good position to solve the problem before it becomes the team’s Achilles heels in Brazil.
Unlike the 1994 World Cup squad, which he said was built around defenders, Ezeugo said that, “the present crop is lacking in some key areas,” maintaining that Keshi would fix the problem areas before the World Cup.
He maintained that the Super Eagles would do well in Brazil despite its defensive deficiencies, which he said was not peculiar to it alone.
“Other teams also have their area of concern. Ours may be defence but the coach we get around it. The buck stops with Keshi, I am sure he will do something about the defence.
“Fortunately he played in the defence, he is a master in that area. So far I want to assure you that if you use what we have in the local league and abroad, we’ll do well at the World Cup even though we don’t have quality defenders.”
He blamed the dearth of quality players in the country to a warped culture whereby people cut corners in pursuit of their goals.
