Heartland of Owerri continued their search for a win but the Maze
Millionaires have found it so difficult after five league matches to
pick three points in a match. Under pressure coach of Enugu Rangers,
John Obuh saw the pressure on him multiplied courtesy of a home draw
against Sunshine Stars of Akure.
While Gbenga Ogunbote led Sharks are on a smooth sail after the Blue Angels kept another clean sheet against city rivals Dolphins FC making it four clean sheet in consecutive league matches this term. League leaders, Akwa United got another home victory to complement their stay at the top.
After Warri Wolves endured a sad exit from the continent and another road loss to Kano Pillars in the past week, the Seasiders had Super Eagles striker at CHAN and former 3SC goal poacher, Gbolahan Salami to thank after the strong and power playing striker got a brace against Premier League debutant, Giwa FC.
Another Premier League debutant, FC Taraba forced Enyimba to yet another 1-0 loss after the Aba Elephant were shocked 0-1 at home by city rivals, Abia Warriors the previous week. FC Taraba Bobby Abel got his second goal in five games in the 20th minute and in the end it was enough to secure the three points.
Heartland of Owerri and Enugu Rangers both drew at home. Heartland after five league matches have not recorded a win, a tough blow for a team that won the Federation Cup back to back in 2011 and 2012. Unlike last season where the Naze Millionaires picked up after a home loss in the first match, this season has been a tough one for them, Heartland is still searching for a win.
Former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh might be shown the exit door if he fails to perform, playing at home in Enugu against Sunshine Stars, it's expected that the Flying Antelopes who have the MVP of African Nations Championship (CHAN) in their squad will pick a win but Sunshine Stars who have proved to be a stubborn team compounded the worries of Rangers with a draw.
The league leaders have been very impressive after week 5 of NPL; the Promise Keepers won at home 2-0 against the Nembe City who have been contending with outside of the pitch matters the past few weeks. Goals from Ukeme Davies and Ubong Ekpai gave the table toppers a convincing victory.
Abia Warriors failed to replicate their superb form on the road as the Ochendo. Babes allowed Kano Pillars who badly needed a confident boost to force them to share points at the Umuahia township stadium.
Crown FC of Ogbomoso who seem to have settled down at their adopted home ground, Lekan Salami stadium Ibadan have won all their home matches but yet to pick a point on the road. Francis Nnedum's goal came from a pin point cross from influencial captain, Bode Daniel.
