Sports Ministry takes charge of Bayelsa Queens, team set to smile to the Bank

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Chief Mitema Obordor has taken-over all financial transactions of Bayelsa Queens Football Club of Yenagoa, in a bid to ensure the club's stability and optimum performance.

All outstanding sign-on fees and allowances are to be handled directly by the Sports Ministry.

It was gathered that following the financial crisis that engulfed the club, resulting in players agitations, a panel of inquiry was set to look into the remote and immediate causes of the problems.

The panel, it was gathered have since submitted it report to the Bayelsa State Sports Ministry, resulting in this new development.

It was further gathered that the monthly over-head costs of #13million for the club will now be domiciled in the Ministry to ensure prudent financial management while awaiting the final outcome of the panel’s report.

Reliable sources within the club indicated that the panel of inquiry may have recommended the dissolution of the Bayelsa Queens management due to allegations of financial mismanagement and lack of interest of players welfare.

Meanwhile, the players have thanked the panel and promised that with the latest development, the team is back to top shape.

“You see we are working, the government provided money for us yet the management of the club had refused to pay us.

Now that we are under the Sports Ministry let's see if there will be difference, but for now we are happy that our money issue will soon be history.”
