Cote d'Ivoire maintained their grip on the top spot in the African rankings after moving up two spots in the latest FIFA national team rankings released on Thursday.

In the global rankings the Ivoirians moved up two places to 17th place after cruising to a 3:1 win over Senegal in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday in Abidjan.

The Elephants have been the top-ranked team in Africa for an amazing 29 months - since June 2011.

Ghana, who hammered Egypt 6:1 in the race to Brazil on Tuesday, moved up one spot to 23rd in the world and kept her second place in Africa.

Nigeria rose three places to 33rd in the world, but remained in fourth place on the continent after beating Ethiopia 3:2 in another World Cup qualifier on Sunday in Addis Ababa.

The only top four African team to lose places in the global rankings were Algeria who lost 3:2 at Burkina Faso in the race to the Mundial.

The Desert Foxes dropped four places to 32nd in the world, but maintained their third place position in the African ranking.

The highest climbers were Libya who moved up nine places to 61st in the world and 11th in Africa, while the biggest drop was suffered by Equatorial Guinea after sliding 21 places.
