Olympic football silver medalist and Super Eagles right-back, Chibuzor Okonkwo, who now plies his trade with Libyan top side, Alswehly FC, is full of praise for members of the senior national team for their deserved 2-1 win over Ethiopia in a Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Addis-Ababa Stadium on Sunday.
Chibuzor, who was in one of the camping exercise of the Super Eagles in earlier rounds said in a chat, from his base in Libya, that the Eagles showed that they are true African champions with the way and manner the victory was achieved.
“I am in cloud nine here in Libya. My team mates are celebrating with me here and I feel great being a Nigerian."
"Sincerely, it was not an easy match as the Ethiopians were no pushovers as they played a brave game but our players showed more hunger to get the win which they got."
There is no stopping the Eagles now. Nigeria is 95% in Brazil for the World cup,” enthused the 2008 Olympic Games silver medalist.
The former Enugu Rangers and Heartland FC right-back whose Libyan club currently occupies the third position in the Libyan top flight, stated further, “Our players needs to be praised for braving the odds and come out with a very important win that will make the return leg a mere formality.”
On his chances of making a come-back to the senior national team, Chibuzor said, “If I am called up and given the opportunity, I am ready to give my best.
I pray that the manager (Stephen Okechukwu Keshi) will remember me in the build-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
