Title sponsor of the Nigerian Premier
League, Globacom, has called on the teams participating in the 2015
Super 6 tournament to rekindle fans’ interest as the new season
approaches.
The Super 6, which started in Abuja last
Saturday and will be rounded off next Saturday, is being played by
reigning Glo Premier League champions Kano Pillars, runners-up Enyimba,
Federation Cup runners-up, Dolphin of Port Harcourt and Warri Wolves,
while the national U23 and U20 teams who are participating in the
competition for the first time complete the list.
“We look forward to witnessing a great
competition among the teams, especially with the inclusion of the junior
national teams,” Globacom said in a statement in Lagos.
“We believe it will also enable the Glo
Premier League clubs to test their new signings and blend them with the
old players ahead of the new season. For Kano Pillars and Enyimba, it
will provide ample opportunity for them to prepare for the CAF Champions
League preliminaries which kicks off next month.”
The telecommunications company commended
the organisers of the tournament, Nigeria Football Federation and the
League Management Company for their foresight, saying that the
pre-season competition would boost the quality of football in the
country.
“We believe the Super 6 couldn’t have
come at a better time to put the fans in the football mood as the new
season kicks off in March,” the statement further said.
“We, therefore call on football fans to troop out faithfully to watch the games at the National Stadium, Abuja.”
