WE LOST PEP AFTER UCL OUSTER-PIQUE

Barcelona central defender Gerard Pique says the players believe defeat to Chelsea in last season's Champions League convinced Pep Guardiola to leave.

Guardiola ended his tenure at the Nou Camp last summer after the Catalans failed to win in Europe but former Manchester United defender Pique suggests the Bayern Munich boss-to-be could have been talked into staying with the Catalan giants if the result was different.

Chelsea knocked Barca out of the semis ahead of going onto winning the competition.

"We were left with the feeling that if we had beaten Chelsea in the semi-finals and then gone on to win the Champions League, we could have convinced him to stay another year. You never know," said Pique.

Guardiola is set to replace Jupp Heynckes as manager of Bayern at the end of the current campaign.
