KWARA UNITED VS SUNSHINE STARS MATCH REPORTS...............COMPILED BY AYODELE FASUSI AND ABAYOMI ADEMETAN
Resolute Samuel Abimbola managed Sunshine Stars battled hard to claim a well earned draw against Kwara United in an entertaining Nigeria Professional Football League week 2 match held in the Ilorin on Wednesday.
The Samson Unamel-tutored lads seemed to settle quickly at the 15,000 seater Kwara State Stadium, and instantly carved out the first chance of the game through Abu Azeez's long range shot after two minutes, but that failed to trouble Sunshine's custodian Sule Mohammed. The Afonja War Lords bombarded the away side. They almost took the lead through Abu Azeez but the former Bridge Boys starlet failed to connect with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
The first twenty minutes was all about Kwara United making their intentions known, and being urged by their die hard fans.Seun Sogbeso who scored against the Akure boys last season was whiskers away from drawing the first blood.A timely intervention by Alaba Osawe saved the blushes of the Mimiko boys.
The away side's back four that had the quartet of Alaba Osawe, Ofem Onah, Isaac and Odunlani Ebenezer were kept busy throughout the duration of the match.
The combination of Dare Ojo, Halilu Obadeki ,Abu Azeez and Seun Sogbeso gave Sunshine every reason to be worried.Beach soccer starlet Azeez missed a sitter on the half hour mark.Dele Olorundare almost silenced the home fans but an alert Kazeem Yekini remedied the situation.
The first 45 minutes ended with the Akure boys heaving a sigh of relief.
On the hour mark, United finally broke the deadlock through the lively Azeez Abu's well taken volley that sailed to the right-hand side of Sule Mohammed's post .
However, Christian Joshua secured an equaliser with 12 minutes to play as the two teams shared the spoils in a result that will leave the Afonja Warriors disappointed.
Kwara United and Sunshine Stars both remain unbeaten in two matches, with two and four points respectively.
