REUBEN GABRIEL ON THE BRINK OF SPL MOVE.......................WRITTEN BY ABAYOMI ADEMETAN

Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock are on the verge of winning the signature of Kano Pillars and Super Eagles midfield general Reuben Gabriel. The imposing Kano Pillars grafter is on the brink of joining Rabiu Ibrahim at the club.

Discussions have taken place place with Gabriel’s representatives in Scotland at Kilmarnock Sports Complex, and it is understood that he could be on his way to the SPL in a $0.8m deal.

Senior sources at the ambitious side confirmed their intention to land the current Nigerian League Bloggers Player of the Year.

Kilmarnock gaffer Kenny Shiels wants the midfield linchpin to shore up his favourite 4-1-2-3 playing system.

The former Enyimba International FC and Kaduna United star is seen by followers of the game as the next ‘’ Sunday Oliseh ’’, and his addition is expected to create the needed steel in the heart of the SPL side’s midfield.

The dark-skinned footballer was been linked with Belgium’s AA Ghent and England’s Swansea in the past. Despite his enormous talents all failed to materialize.

The 22-year-old player is highly-rated in his homeland. His ability to provide the needed cover for the back-four ,lay passes to his team-mates and contribute his fair share of goals, makes him a bargain for any club in Europe.

His key strengths are his passing and shooting ability. He is known for his immense physical presence which is often combined with lung-bursting runs from midfield, and has consequently been referred to as a ‘’human train’’ and a ‘’colossus’’ by various pundits. A typical example was the strike he netted against Malawi in Blantrye.

Gabriel is one of the key players that coaches usually bank on when the chips are down. He has always impressed in the colours of Pillars and Nigeria. He has also played a major role since Stephen Okechukwu Keshi took charge of the Super Eagles. However, injuries limited his progress during the 2013 AFCON held in South Africa. The Nigeria Professional Football League winner took solace at being a member of the winning squad.

He started most of Pillars’ matches of the 2012 NPFL season , and also played a key role in the club’s run to a 4th place in finish in the 2012 NFF Fed Cup.
