Super Eagles Yet To Train After Argentina Loss, As Sports Minister Wade In - Report By SL10

Nigeria’s sports minister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo is presently meeting with Senate President, David Mark on how to solve the money issues that has threatened to extinguish the country’s participation at the World Cup.

The Super Eagles have been having meetings with officials of the Nigeria football federation on the payment of their bonuses, which resulted in the team failing to show up for their training session on Thursday. They were supposed to train in Campinas at 18h00 local time, but didn’t show up as the meeting dragged on.

According to sources, the players are demanding to be paid the amount agreed with the NFF if they progressed to the round of 16, which is believed to be $30,000 for each player. The players meanwhile, have already been paid the sum of $15,000 each for the draw and win against Iran and Bosnia respectively. No bonus for the Argentina game, as it ended in a loss.

And Sl10.ng can exclusively reveal that sports minister Danagogo is meeting with the country’s senate president, David Mark to discuss on how more funds can be released to the team.

The team will depart Campinas at 14h00 local time, which is 18h00 Nigerian time for Brasilia, where they are scheduled to face the Les Bleus of France on Monday in a round of 16 clash.

Over eight hundred million naira (about $5m) was budgeted for the Eagles’ participation at the world cup – even though only a fraction of that was released to prosecute the group stages.

And as it is now, General-Secretary of the Nigeria football federation, Musa Amadu has left Sao Paulo for Nigeria, as he bids to get more funds for the team.

It is however unclear at this point whether the players will agree to travel to Campinas if the bonuses aren’t paid. Nigeria had a similar issue last summer when the players refused to travel to Brazil for the confederations cup over bonus issues.
