The Super Eagles made all of the running in the opening exchanges as the Greek side opted to play deep and keep a compact shape, trying to cut down any space.
Despite their defensive shape Greece did have the first shot at goal of the game in the 7th minutes as their skipper Karagounis slipped in a clever through pass for Fetfatzidis, who did well to make space in the box before firing his shot over the target.
Odemwingie should have hit the target in the 14th minute but his shot from distance went well wide.
