Wenger: We need to react against United

Arsene Wenger, has urged his players to respond against Manchester United after their ‘accident’ at Anfield on Saturday and defended his record-signing Mesut Ozil.

The Gunners lost 5-1 against an in-form Liverpool, which also saw them slipping to second place in the Premier League.

But Wenger is confident his team will respond very positive on Wednesday, as they have done after their previous defeats against Man United in the return match and the 6-3 trashing against Manchester City.

“We respond tomorrow in a very positive way, I am convinced of that as we have done it since the start of the season,” the Frenchman said.

“I think it was an accident because we have been very stable defensively.
We tend to forget how good we are when you are not successful. We have worked very hard until now. These players deserve success."

The Arsenal boss confirmed he can work with the same squad from Saturday. Aaron Ramsey and Thomas Vermaelen will remain side-lined with injury, and Mathieu Flamini serves the last game of his three-match ban.

Wenger also supported his record-signing Mesut Ozil, who has come under heavy criticism in recent weeks for going ‘missing’ during important games for the club.

“He was like everybody else on Saturday,” he continued.

“He works very hard in training to improve. He works very hard to adapt to the Premier League.

“For me he's an exceptional player.”

When asked about the current troubles surrounding Manchester United boss, David Moyes, Wenger said that the Scot needs time to pull the side through this difficult period.

“You need time and patience. You need to be in a big club and he has that,” the Gunners boss added.
