Enugu Rangers have named Cyril Oriaku as new skipper following the departure of Godwin Ayalogu and his assistant Chibuzor Madu.
Goalkeeper Ayalogu has moved to Sunshine Stars, while Madu has joined regional rivals Enyimba.
Oriaku promised to lead Rangers to many victories just as his childhood hero 'Chairman' Christian Chukwu did in the good all days of ‘The Flying Antelopes’.
“I will give my best as Rangers skipper. I want to do what Chukwu did at Rangers, leading the club from victory to victory,” he vowed.
The 24-year-old Oriaku is a hard-tackling libero, who joined Rangers in 2010 from Delta Force.
Past Rangers skippers include Sylvanus Okpala, John Nnam, Ebele Obi, late Kalu Usim, Jerome Ezeoba, Okey Odita, Chinedu Efugh and James Okwuosa.
Rangers last won a major trophy in 1984 and last season finished fifth on the Nigeria premier league table with 58 points, five points behind champions Kano Pillars.
After they crashed out of the CAf Champions League, they were disqualified from the second-tier CAF Confederation Cup for fielding an ineligible player.
