The Falconets grabbed an early goal through Byelsa Queens' Adeboyejo Yetunde who took full advantage of a disorganized South African backline to slip one past Kaylin Swart and give the West Africans the upper hand six minutes into the start.
The South Africans regained their shape and showed character as they pushed forward in search of a consolation goal but the Falconets proved to be the better side, remaining solid in defence. The match went into the break with Nigeria still in the lead.
Basetsana were fired up into the second half as Shiwe Nogwana and Thembi Kgatlane looked the most threatening, keeping the Nigerian goalkeeper busy for the remainder of the half.
A second half substitute saw Nomvula Kgoale come on for Robyn Moodaly to boost the South African midfield.
In the dying minutes of the game, Nogwana pulled one forward to surprise the Nigerian goal-minder but her shot was sent over the cross bar.
The Falconets knew they were in with a shot and took the foot off the pedal to frustrate Basetsana as they seemed happy to sit back and defence their lead. Their tactic seemed to work as the match ended 1-0 in their favour and they will now participate at the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup Canada 2014.
