Super Eagles head coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi aka Big Boss has hailed his troupes for the annihilation of hosts South Africa 3-1 on Sunday, thus progressing to the knockout stage of the ongoing African
Nations Championship.
Nigeria domestic side, debutants in the tournament got the required result thanks to a
brace from Man of the Match Ejike Uzoenyi, and strike from Ifeanyi Ede,
with Bernard Parker pulling one back for the hosts at Cape Town
Stadium.
They were dully rewarded as they dominated the game from the blast of the whistle, with Gbolahan Salami, Ifeanyi Ede, Shehu Abdullahi, Solomon Kwambe and Ejike Uzoenyi pulling the strings. Even the previously erratic Chigozie Agbim gave agood account of himself with two outstanding saves.
Nigeria progressed alongside Group A winners Mali, who they lost to in their opening game of the competition before bouncing back with wins against Mozambique and Bafana Bafana.
"The boys fought like wounded lions to stay in this competition," Keshi said.
"I'm very grateful to them and I salute them, they did wonderfully well.
"In the first game they had a little bit of stage fright. But I knew their ability, I know what they can do, so I knew they would qualify.
"We'll just take it game by game," he added of the Super Eagles' prospects going forward.
