Gunners playmaker voted German player of the year 2013

Arsenal record signing Mesut Ozil has been named the German national team Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.

The 25-year old, who joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in the summer, beat Bayern Munich pair Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller to the award which was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Wednesday.

Ozil attracted 30.39% of fan votes, ahead of Lahm’s 17.54% and Muller’s 13.58%, and was delighted to have been voted in once again.

"I am still looking forward to every international match as if it was my first one,” he told the DFB’s official website.

"2013 was a year full of turbulence with my transfer from Madrid to London. So that made the internationals together with my friends and these amazing fans even more important.

"Being voted makes me proud. Especially because this poll has been done by the fans.

"This award is also compulsory for me to have a successful 2014 with a successful World Cup."
