Chelsea goalie distance himself from Barcelona

Thibaut Courtois has no intention of joining Barcelona at the end of his loan at Atletico Madrid, the goalkeeper’s father has revealed.

Barcelona are searching for a replacement for Victor Valdes, who has announced he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Courtois, on loan from Chelsea, was said to be on the shortlist of the Camp Nou hierarchy, but reports now say Barcelona have settled on Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Courtois is due to remain on loan with Diego Simeone’s side until the end of the current season with talks already on-going with his parent club regarding his future past that point.

The Belgium international’s father Thierry told Het Nieuwsblad: “Thibaut is not disappointed that Barcelona have chosen another goalkeeper.

“It was never a real option. Thibaut still has a contract until the end of the season at Atletico.

“It is logical that there are talks with Chelsea about his future at this point. And that's what we are doing.”
