Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, ex-Governor of Kwara State and
Senator representing Kwara Central, was
yesterday elected as the new President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria.
Senator Ahmed Lawan (Borno), who emerged the consensus
candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was not nominated.
Saraki was elected unopposed by 57 of 108 Senators, with 51
Senators missing, Lawan among them.
The General Manager of the club, Alloy Chukwuemeka, who led
the celebration party, congratulated Saraki for achieving the feat.
He expressed confidence in the ability of Senator Saraki,
whom he described as a competent, loyal, hard-working and result-oriented
leader, to take absolute charge of the Upper Chambers of the National Assembly.
According to Chukwuemeka, ‘On behalf of the management, officials and
players of ABS FC, I congratulate our Chairman and Proprietor, Distinguished
Senator Bukola Saraki, the new Senate President and Chairman of the National
Assembly.
He added that the emergence of Senator Saraki underlines the collective
preference for a credible legislature and the confidence in his (Saraki’s)
capacity and competence to lead it.
ABS FC was introduced to the footballing market by Senator Abubakar
Bukola Saraki (CON), as a platform to empower and encourage Nigerian youths to
achieve their God’s given talents in football.
