Nigeria in 'must-win' match

Super Eagles of Nigeria take on hosts Bafana Bafana of South Africa Sunday in a Group A, Day 3 match which could spell 'boom or doom' for the Nigerians at the ongoing 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

A shock 2-1 defeat against Mali in an opening Group A game on 11 January, put the Nigerians in a very difficult position although they went on to defeat Mozambique 4-2 four days later.

After two rounds of matches, Nigeria has scored only three points, placing third on the table ahead of Mozambique and behind South Africa and Mali, both on four points.

Sunday's encounter at the Cape Town Stadium is a must-win for Nigeria because anything less will see them exit the tournament.

The other Group A final match will be between Mali and Mozambique at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

Mozambique, 3-1 losers to South African and 4-2 to Nigeria, appear to be the whipping boys in that group.

Mali, who defeated Giants Nigeria 2-1 and drew 1-1 with the hosts, look set to advance to the quarter-finals.

Like South Africa, they are on four points but in second place on the table and could vault to top spot if they beat Mozambique, depending on the outcome of the Nigeria/South Africa match.
