Waheed Akanni has shared his personal opinion with SL10 on the kind of players he wants to see at the World Cup.
The ex-international who won bronze with the Nigeria U-20 team at the 1985 FIFA World Youth Championship (AYC) in the former USSR stated clearly his views although he was quick to note that it was his personal opinion.
"I'd like to see Stoke City forward, Peter Osaze Odemwingie at the World Cup. Please note that it's my personal opinion. Peter has been in fine form with Stoke and that alone could go a long way for the team," said Waheed.
Akanni who began his football career in 1983 with NEPA of Lagos also mentioned likely names that will sure feature in the Mundial.
"I'll expect to see Mikel, Emenike, Moses at the World Cup."
The former chairman of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Waheed Akanni fore sees a tough battle waiting ahead for the African champions in their group at the World Cup.
"It's a 50-50 chance that Nigeria will qualify from that group; I'll be honest with you. If you look at the teams in that group, you just can't say that Nigeria, Argentina, Iran or Bosnia will qualify from that group. If you compare the kind of players each country parades, definitely you'll give it to Argentina but between Nigeria and Bosnia, it's a 50-50 chance. It all depends on the result both Nigeria and Bosnia can get against Argentina," said Akanni.
It is expected that Keshi will make public his provisional squad for the World Cup before the day runs out.
