Former Super Eagles boss pays tribute Thunder Balogun's widow

Adegboye Onigbinde, has paid glowing tributes to the wife of Nigeria’s football legend, Teslim ‘Thunder’ Balogun, who died 16 years ago.

Onigbinde, in his tribute to mark her 16th memorial on Sunday, described Alhaja Mulikat as a motivator to her husband Teslim Balogun, who was a great asset to the nation.

“The late ‘Thunderbolt’ was full of humour, humility, discipline and was a good mixer who showed his dexterity in his coaching job after his playing career. This was due to the support of his wife.”

Also, the President-General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, described the late Mulikat as, “A great lover who played a noble role in her husband’s glorious soccer career.”

A former Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Nosiru Kadiku, said Mulikat played a major role in football development in the country, through the backing she gave her husband.

“In 1958, when she received a passionate appeal from the then Premier of Western Nigeria, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, to persuade her husband to dump his British club, Queens Park Rangers, and return to Nigeria so as to assist the Western Rovers in the quest to win the Challenge Cup, she promptly delivered.”
