Jack Wilshere will miss England's upcoming international
friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil to undergo minor
ankle surgery.
Wilshere missed the whole of the 2011-12 season through injury
but produced a string of impressive displays following his return in the
early stages of the current campaign.
The injury curse struck once again, however, when the 21-year-old
suffered a setback in March, resulting in him missing several weeks. He
has been a substitute for the last three games and is expected to be
named on the bench for the visit of FA Cup winners Wigan to the Emirates
on Tuesday night.
England manager Roy Hodgson had been set to include the midfielder in
his squad for the end-of-season friendlies, but Arsenal manager Arsene
Wenger has confirmed he will undergo surgery to remove a pin, which was
inserted during a previous operation.
"He will have small mild surgery after the season. At the moment Jack
plays with painkillers and I use him only when it is really needed,"
said Wenger.
"It is a very small, small, small one (operation), taking out a pin. It is a two to three weeks job. It will not be a problem."
