Sunderland
boss Paolo Di Canio has told his players not to lose focus despite
reaching safety - or he’ll cut their summer holiday entitlement.
“We still have one game to go and we have to make sure that we perform well because I don't want us to finish fourth-bottom.
“Even a draw would mean that potentially we could finish six from the bottom.
“We need a new mentality.
“I told my players this morning that I won't accept any unprofessional behaviour.
“What happened at Villa Park [when Sunderland lost 6-1 against Aston Villa] was not acceptable.
“I told them that we can win or draw [at Spurs] – or lose with dignity, respecting the club's name and the fans that will follow us at the game.
“Otherwise I will reduce their holiday. I will give them only the minimum I can give them, which is four weeks – 28 days, instead of probably 38 or 40.
“Because in some way we have to start a change of mentality.
“Just because we fell into a trap at Aston Villa, I don't us to fall into the same trap again.
“I'm sure that four or five individuals don't need this kind of situation, but the others need to know that there are rules – that's how we will change the mentality, or else we will have to use a punishment in some way.
“I will use any method to change their mentality.”
