NAIJA PLAYERS XPLOITS ABROAD.............WRITTEN BY NURUDEEN ADEBAYO AND CY.

Eredivisie champions Ajax ended the season with a 2-0 win at Groningen, who narrowly sealed their place in the UEFA Europa League play-offs. Femi Ajilore aka Major was benched for the entire duration by the homers.



ADO Den Haag could have secured seventh place with three points at FC Zwolle's IJsseldelta Stadion but suffered a 4-2 defeat. Super Eagles youngster Kenneth Omeruo was suspended for this one.


VVV Venlo pipped Vitesse one-nil with Uche Nwofor lasting the length for the Eredivisie strugglers.



Fortuna Dusseldorf missed the chance to secure their top-flight status as they were beaten 2-1 by Nuremburg and the prospect of relegation still looms with them only being out of the bottom three on goal difference. Overlapping fullback Leon Balogun was not listed for action.


Werder Bremen secured their safety with a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt. Kevin De Bruyne gave them the lead and although Srdan Lakic equalised, Bremen got the point they needed to guarantee survival. Former Club Brugges star Joseph Akpala was dropped by Bremen's coaching crew.


On Saturday, Celtic lifted the SPL trophy as champions after their resounding 4-0 home win over Champions League hopefuls St Johnstone. Former Ashdod SC defender Efe Ambrose was not dressed by the SPL Kings.


Relegated Dundee lost 3-2 at home to Kilmarmock, who in turn move up to eighth. Former Sporting Lisbon playmaker Rabiu Ibrahim came-on as a second half substitute to inspire Kilmarnock to victory. 


Pacos de Ferreira wrapped up Portugal's berth in the qualifying stages of next season's Champions League with a 1-1 draw at Academica. Super Eagles attacking midfielder John Ogu earned a second half yellow card in the colours of Academica.


Fourth-placed Sporting Braga were stunned 3-1 at home by Nacional. Super Eagles first choice left-back Elderson Uwa Echiejile was on the substitutes bench for the length.


Frank Lampard scored twice to become Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer in the 2-1 win at Aston Villa. Victor Moses was brilliant from the flank, while John Obi Mikel was missing through injury.

Norwich secured Premier League football for 2013/14 with a 4-0 win over West Brom at Carrow Road on Sunday. Peter Osaze Odemwingie was an 81st substitute in the one-sided battle. He replaced Romelu Lukaku.


Everton gave outgoing manager David Moyes the perfect Goodison Park farewell with a convincing 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday. A pair of goals from Kevin Mirallas gave Everton their sixth home Premier League win in succession, as Moyes' side ensured they would finish above local rivals Liverpool for the second season in a row, a feat that had not been achieved since 1937. Victor Anichebe was a constant threat, having a shot deflected wide before Jaaskelainen made a great block with his legs to deny the Nigerian in the 25th minute.However, he made way Jelavic in the second-half.


Newcastle secured Premier League safety after Yoan Gouffran was gifted the winning goal in their 2-1 victory over QPR on Sunday. Nedum Onuoha tasted 90 minutes action for the homers, while Shola Ameobi was not listed by Alan Pardew.


Prayag United comfortably dispatched ONGC 3-1 at the Kalyani Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an I-League fixture which was the final game of the season for both sides. The league's top scorer, Ranti Martins scored a brace as he converted a penalty in the 29th minute and then added a second just before the break.


United Sikkim conceded three goals at the Paljor Stadium to Karim Bencherifa’s Mohun Bagan in their final outing in the I-League 2012-13 season. Odafa Okolie grabbed one of the goals.


Defending champions Dempo SC finished fifth in the I-League 2012-13 season with a 2-1 win over Salgaocar FC at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco, Goa, on Sunday. Gabriel Obatola scored for the losers.


The Nicosia derby produced seven goals, with Apoel winning 4-3 against Omonia  at the Neo GSP. Dependable defender Rasheed Alabi watched the match from the bench.


Midtjylland were three-nil victors over visiting Randers BK. Nigeria young lads Rilwan Hassan and Slyvester Igboun were excellent in the discharge of their duties. Igboun was substituted in the 71st minute, while Hassan was on for the entire duration.


Seattle Sounders continued their revival with a 4-0 thumping of San Jose Earthquakes. Super Eagles striker Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins came on in the 55th minute and netted his side's last goal of the match in the dying moments.


Samson Kayode's Ha Noi T&T pumelled Sope Ahmed's Kien Giang five-nil on Saturday. Sharp shooting Kayode grabbed a brace in the match.


Ninh Binh and Xuan Thanh Sai Gon treated to a three-all draw on Friday. Former Lobi Stars hotshot Timothy Anjembe netted Ninh's first goal in the 30th minute of action.


Recalled Super Eagles star Kalu Uche fired blanks for Kasimpasa in a Turkish league match they lost 2-1 to Kayserispor.


Relegated Orduspor lost one-nil at Antalyaspor. Former youth captain Isaac Promise was in action for the winners, while former Union Bank midfielder Yussuf Ayila was on the opposing side.


Fenerbahce restored some pride with a 2-1 win over bitter rivals Galatasaray on Sunday. Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo was outstanding at the back for the 2012/2013 Europa League semi finalists.


Promotion chasing Adanaspor were dealt a terrible blow by fellow aspirants Manisaspor when they lost 2-1 at home. Chibuzor Nwogbo failed to shine for the home side.


Portimonense failed to gain ground on the promotion race when they lost 2-1 at Sporting CP(B). Lanky striker Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo was on for the duration in the colours of the visitors. He did his best playing as the central striker.


In France, Bastia dispatched visiting Montpellier 3-1. Enugu-born veteran striker John Chukwudi Utaka scored his team's only goal of the match.


Ten-man Stade Rennes lost 4-1 at Valenciennes. Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi made do with a place on the bench, while Onyekachi Apam was not listed.


In Belgium, Standard Liege were beaten at home by Club Brugge on Sunday. Former 36 Lion young striker Imoh Ezekiel fired blanks in the colours of Liege. He was on for 90 minutes.

1461 Trabzons climbed to third place with a 3-2 win at Rizespor. Nigeria duo Uche Kalu and Francis Chikeluba Ofoedu were not listed by their respective clubs.


Besiktas were in no mood for friendship and they showed it against Ekigho Ehiosun's Genclerbirligi. The Turkish giants won three-nil. The former Warri Wolves star was a shadow of himself in the one-sided encounter.


At the Royal Oman Police Stadium, Oman FC defeated homers Al Musannah two-nil. Energetic defender Dayo Adeyoriju was brilliant in the colours of the away side. He lasted the duration and was given high marks by observers of the game.


Haugesund pipped stubborn Valerenga one-nil. Upcoming midfielder Ugonna Anyora was the best player on the pitch with hois creativity and magic touch. He earned a yellow card and lasted the length.


Molde's early season continued with a boring goalless draw at Sandnes Ulf. Dark-skinned striker Daniel Chima was a constant threat to the hosts defence line. He was on for 90 minutes.


IK Start featuring Solomon James Owello were consigned to their second defeat in a row by Viking. The attacking midfielder gave a good account of himself in the match.


KuPS were 2-1 victors at the den of VPS. Former India based star Dudu Omagbemi was a 90th minute substitute for the winners.


Aland United failed to get a goal against resolute Honka. Super Falcons star Cynthia Uwak made moves to score but she was kept at bay by Honka's goalie. The game ended goalless.


Pitea fell 2-1at home to visiting KIF Orebro. Super Falcons defender Faith Ikidi was given a starters shirt, while her younger compatriot Francisca Ordega was an 81st minute substitute. On the winning party was Sarah Michael, who was bright playing from the left-flank.


It was a goalscoring appearance for Super Falcons dependable defender Helen Ukaonu as she scored her first goal in the 2013 Sweden Damallsvenskan. Her clubside were forced to a one-all draw by Mallbacken. Also in the thick of the tension soaked action was Perpetua Nkwocha.


Anthony Ujah failed to rescue FC Cologne from the hands of Hertha BSC as they lost 2-1. The former Lillestrom star has netted 12 goals in the current campaign.


Dynamo Kiev defeated Illichivets' one-nil with the only goal coming from the magic boots of former Monaco midfielder Lukman Haruna. Also in action were forgetten Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo and AFCON 2013 star Brown Ideye.


CSKA Moscow edged closer to the Russian Premier League title with a convincing 4-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow on Sunday. The capital club were 3-0 up by half-time at the Luzhniki Stadium after Brazilian striker Vagner Love struck either side of an Ahmed Musa goal. 


Russia's most-decorated club Spartak Moscow drew 1-1 with Samara, after Marek Suchy headed home from a corner to cancel out Pyotr Nemov’s eighth-minute opener. Emmanuel Emenike was missing in action.


At the Athlone Stadium, former Enugu Rangers skipper James Okwuosa scored a beautiful goal for Chippa United in an ABSA Premiership match against University Of Pretoria. The game ended 2-2.


Former Plateau United custodian Greg Etafia was the man that denied Supersport United the maximum points in a league match played against Moroka Swallows on Saturday. Felix Obada also joined his compatriot on the pitch when he came-on for injured Mabalane in the 38th minute. The match ended in a scoreless draw.
