Teenage Sensation Edewor Nets Hat-trick In Thriller

Teenage forward Edewor Precious netted the first hat-trick of the Nigeria Women Premier League season as Osun Babes twice came from behind to beat Ibom Angels 3-2 in Ede on Sunday.

Having initially brought the hosts level in the first half, Edewor stole the headlines when she struck twice in the closing minutes to seal a hard-earned victory.

Nnenna Eke had earlier given Ibom Angels the lead in the 8th minute, but the Edewor show began 14 minutes before the break when she converted a spot kick.

Despite controlling the game for long spells, Osun Babes side were punished again eleven minutes after the hour mark, as Mary Ologbosere tapped home.

However, it was not enough as Edwor scored a late brace to deny Ibom Angels a win that would have boosted their morale in the NWPL week one match.

The visitors made a promising start, with Ologbosere particularly impressive down the right. The Flamingoes defender delivered two threatening crosses into the Osun Babes penalty area early on.

Ibom Angels' control of proceedings was rewarded in the 8th minute, though, as a swift attack from the visitors saw Eke net her team's maiden goal of the league season.

One minute before the half hour mark, Osun Babes pegged the visitors back from the penalty spot.

Togolese import Blessing Afhagideh was hacked down in the box by Victoria Aidelomon and Edewor dispatched the spot kick past goalkeeper Gift Andy.

Edewor was at the heart of all the positive play from the hosts in the opening 45 minutes, and they should have gone into the break ahead.

Osun Babes kept up their fast pace after the restart and saw another two chances go begging, as the agile Andy produced world class stops to deny Edewor.

The hosts were then made to pay for their profligacy as Ibom Angels took the lead for a second time through Ologbosere.

Goalkeeper Rita Akarekor made a huge error with the ball. She couldn't handle the ball well.

That appeared likely to be enough as Ologbosere's goal looked decisive, but with time running out Edewor returned to run rings round the defence line to level things for a second time.

And the striker was not finished there, as she expertly converted a volley from 15 yards into the bottom corner to snatch victory for the hosts in the 83rd minute.
