Kogi United have secured their first win of the season on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Yobe Desert Stars in Lokoja.
The Confluence state club had almost wrapped up the game in first half after gaining a two-goal lead from Destiny Ashadi's 14th minute strike from the spot and a well taken free kick scored by Ernest Governor in the last minute of the first stanza.
The second half was not as eventful as the first but Kogi United would still fashioned out the third goal in the 66th minute.
Destiny Ashadi collected a through pass from Ismail Mayaki in his half and raced down to goal area before shooting directly to Yobe Stars goalkeeper Victor Philemon who punched it back to the Wada Boys' Number 10 to finish the job and recorded Kogi United's third goal and his brace of the match.
While describing the victory as fantastic for his boys, chairman of the Lokoja based side, Abdul Sule noted that the display of soccer artistry would assist Kogi United to get their full confidence back.
"Yes, it's a good feeling we won today, after the poor show in our first game at home, but today it's three points, three goals, it's fantastic, we had a lot of chances today we could have scored more but I think its better to keep the ball so we are contempted with that, the former Stationery Stores striker begins.
"There's a lot of confidence in the team now, we played a very bad game at home (a draw against Spotlight) we went away and got a draw (against Supreme Court) and now we won 3-0 so we are taking the confidence to our next game (at Adamawa) to get something from there, this is a real message to the fans that they need to be patient with the team as we are still working towards making the team a force to reckon with," Sule said.
Coach of the Confluence State club Yomi Elijah said the victory was for the fans, supporters and well wishers who stood with the team and promised that Kogi United would get even better as season progresses.
His counterpart from Yobe Desert Stars, Ibrahim Salau admitted that his boys lost to a better side in Kogi United adding that the Damaturu side would strive to find their rhythm back to maintain their status in NNL.
Kogi United has however garnered five points from three games and would face Adamawa United in Fufore next Saturday.
