As the finals of the 2015 GTBank-Lagos Principal’s Cup gets underway on Wednesday (today) at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, GTBank has restated its commitment to investing in youth football development, saying it is vital in helping Nigeria emerge a global powerhouse in the game.
In the boys’ final, Birrel Avenue Senior Secondary School, Sabo, will clash with Keke High School, Ijaye, while Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, will battle Ikotun Senior College in the girls’ version.
The winners of the boys and girls categories of the competition will receive N1m each. The second, third and fourth-placed teams go home with N750,000, N500,000 and N250,000 respectively, while GTBank will also upgrade the existing sports infrastructure in all participating schools, which will help further promote overall sports development.
The bank’s Communications General Manager, Lola Odedina, said, “It has been a wonderful year. Every year we try to build on the success of the previous year. We are pleased with the outcome of the tournament so far and we are optimistic that the talents that will emerge from the Principal’s Cup will enlarge the pool of potential players that will not only emerge into national players but global and disciplined football stars. “
According to the organisers of the event, the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, will lead a government delegation to the final ceremony of the competition.
