Reading Release Yakubu
Yakubu Aiyegbeni has been released by English Championship side, Reading FC, as the Royals manager Steve Clarke looks set to do a major overhaul on his squad in the close season.
The Nigerian helped Reading reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup this term and a 19th place finish on the Championship log, he joined Reading FC as a free agent in February 2015 till the end of the season and the February 14, the Yak got his first goal for the Royals in a 2-1 win over Derby County in a FA Cup match at the Pride Park
Aiyegbeni was released along side Danny Guthrie, Zat Knight, Jure Travner and Mikkel Andersen.
According to a club statement, Reading FC owners considered the need for the club's gaffer, Steve Clarke to bring in fresh legs to the club ahead of the new campaign.
The statement read:"As we enter our third year out of the Premier League, the club's owners recognise the need for Steve Clarke to freshen his squad ahead of the new campaign, and this is the beginning of that process"
"After a period of financial instability and with the Financial Fair Play regulations in place, the owners are also making a concerted effort to get back to the sensible wage principles that have long been the club's trademark"
"Striking the right balance will be key to a sustainable model for success."
