Transformation is the word when you talk about the club
known as C.O.D United. The structure and management of the former Kings United
outfit has never been questioned by observers of the game.
The RCCG sponsored side is a brand known for her hospitality
and gives leverage to fans of the round leather game. From the club's anthem
just like that of FC Barcelona to raffle draws conducted on match days; these
concepts are viewed by followers of the game as the best in Nigeria.
The brain behind most of the positive accomplishments of the
team , Mr Victor Akinmoyo, a first class degree holder in Economics has passion
for football and gives his all to the development of the club. The youngest
administrator in the Nigeria National League(NNL) has been one of the leaders
who would attend all training sessions involving the main team and the junior
sides. A passionate and simple technocrats who wants the best for the Bode
Awakan-tutored boys.
In this interview with our Nigeria League Reporter, Ademetan
Abayomi, Mr. Victor spoke about C.O.D United, his vision for the game and some
measures he is adopting to sanitise Nigeria football.
Futball Galore: What do you have to say about C.O.D United?
Victor Akinmoyo: I am happy to be a part of a fantastic
family full of people with productive ideas.
Futball Galore: At the onset, many people virtually wrote
off the team.
Victor Akinmoyo: Most of the doubters don't know the
foundation of the club; they have not followed the history of the club. You
cannot write off a good side, especially when they are in tight corners. Let me
ask you, if there is a dead lion and they will tell you that the lion is dead
and you should go and touch it, you will just go and touch it?
Futball Galore: So C.O.D is the lion?
Victor Akinmoyo: You cannot declare a lion dead yet until
you have cut the meat.
Futball Galore: Can you tell us more about the brand known
as C.O.D United FC?
Victor Akinmoyo: This outfit was created to give followers
of the game the sense of purpose and feel the passion of Nigerian football. We
are the only side that rewards our faithful and fanatical supporters with gifts
on match days at Onikan Waterfront. Also it’s a club that encourages investors
and we pass on the message to well meaning Nigerians to put their hard earned
cash in a productive venture.
Futball Galore: Sir, what assistance will the management
give to the team to enable them gain promotion to Nigeria Professional Football
League(NPFL)?
Victor Akinmoyo: I am happy we have a capable hand in the
person of Bode Awakan. He has the technical impetus to propel the boys to the
NPFL. He is much aware of the challenges ahead of him. He is a sound gaffer.
The main objective is to gain some away points and see what happens at the end
of the day.
Futball Galore: Your boys are yet to pick a point on the
road. Why?
Victor Akinmoyo: We want our game to speak for us during
matches. It’s a source of worry for us too. We hope to break the voodoo
starting from the away fixture against Akwa Starlets at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Futball Galore: What do you have to say on the level of
officiating in the NNL?
Victor Akinmoyo: We are appealing to the men at the centre
to stamp their foot during games. They should officiate matches without fair or
bias feelings.
Futball Galore: The club is known for singing her
traditional anthem to herald a home match. What brought about it?
Victor Akinmoyo: Laughs…….. Like I said earlier, we are a
brand and must stand out in the way we do things. Some people call us the
Barcelona of the NNL.
Futball Galore: According to our investigation, we were made
to understand that C.O.D have a fan base of close to 15,000. How true is this?
Victor Akinmoyo: I think we have the capacity to expand our
horizon. All the success we have attained is to the glory of God.
Futball Galore: Any other plan the club have on the
pipeline?
Victor Akinmoyo: We are mauling on the idea of having a
female team.
Futball Galore: What do you expect your fans to do for the
team, in terms of support?
Victor Akinmoyo: I want our followers to continue to pray
for us and to understand with us too. They should believe in our project.
