NAIJA PLAYERS XPLOITS ABROAD(MEN VERSION)............WRITTEN BY ABAYOMI ADEMETAN

The duo of Nnamdi Oduamandi and Osameriem Ebague were both in action falling 3-1 against Livorno, in the colours of Varese. Ebague netted the home side's only goal, while Odu was issued a first half yellow card. At the Sân vận động Plei Cu Pleiku Stadium, Hoang Anh Gia Lai were too strong for Binh Duong, as they won two-nil. Akpan Bassey kept a clean sheet while Ganiyu Oseni was on the scoresheet. On the losing side were the duo of Sunday Chukuamaka Emmanuel and Aniekan Okon.

East Bengal’s title hopes received a major blow, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Clube de Goa, in an I-League encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Juan Pena gave the visitors a surprise lead in the 44th minute, with a brilliant effort from outside the box. Chidi Edeh replied for Trevor Morgan’s side, with a header in the second half.

Salgaocar FC handed United Sikkim FC a footballing lesson at the Tilak Maidan in Goa, on Saturday, as they thrashed them 9-0 in a round 24 I-League clash. Gabriel Obatola returned to the starting line-up alongside Josimar after serving his suspension. The Nigerian scored the first goal of the match.

At the Estadio Portimonense, Simeon Nwankwo contributed his quota to Portimonense's 2-0 win over Naval.

Mohun Bagan grabbed a late winner once again as they beat Air India 3-2 in an I-League encounter at the Kalyani Stadium to deny the visitors a share of the spoils. Odafa Okolie grabbed one of the three goals fotr the winning team.

Prayag United cruised past an average Pailan Arrows side by a score-line of 4-1, in an I-League encounter at the Kalyani Stadium, on Friday. Kayne Vincent scored two while Ranti Martins and Mohammad Rafiq struck once each for Prayag United. Arrows pulled one back in the second half added-time, when Pronay Halder scored from a penalty. The Nigeria born striker has so far netted 24 goals in the current campaign.

In Malta, 28-year-old forward Alfred Effiong was in action representing Qormi FC against Melita in a Maltese Premier League match played on Saturday. The Nigerian-born ace got a second half yellow card and capped a good show with an 89th minute strike. Qormi won the battle 3-1.

Former Kolding forward Akeem Agbetu scored for Tavşanlı from the spot in a Turkish Division 2 clash against 1461 Trabzon. Former Enugu Rangers key man Francis Chikeluba Ofoedu was not dressed by the visitors. The match ended 1-1.

The only goal of the match between Karpaty and Dynamo Kiev was scored by Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye in the 64th off a Miguel Veloso's assist. Taye Taiwo was benched for the entire
length, while Haruna Lukman was not dressed for the jaw-breaking encounter.

Atletico Madrid were in ruthless form, winning five-nil against Granada at the Calderon. Former Lyn Oslo star Odion Jude Ighalo earned a yellow card in the colours of the disgraced relegation battlers.

A brilliant strike by former Etoile du Sahel star Emeka Opara gave Qarabag a 3-2 win against Inter Baku on Sunday.

An inspirational show by Victor Igbekoyi ensured that Azal collected the maximum points against Sumqayit. The match ended 2-0 with the 26-year-old lasting the entire match duration.

Slavia were forced to a one-draw by Dinamo Minsk in a Belarusian League match played on Saturday. Former Karpathy star Samson Godwin was utilised as a second half substitute by Slavia. Missing in action for the home side was Christian Obodo.

26-year-old midfielder Simon Ogar Veron was yellow carded and subsequently failed to inspire Dinamo Brest against Neman Grodno.The game ended two-nil in favour of the homers.

Former Okomu Oil striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni failed to sparkle as Guangzhou R&F drew 0-0 with Shanghai SIPG at the Yuexiushan Stadium on Saturday. The big man lasted the entire duration.

At the Jinzhou Stadium, Dalian Aerbin were beaten 2-1 by current league kings Guangzhou Evergrande. Former Westerloo forward Peter Utaka was at his best but failed to lift the home lads.

Brighton boosted their play off hopes with a 2-0 win against Middlesbrough at the Riverside. On-loan striker Sammy Ameobi was a second-half entrant in the colours of Borough.

Doncaster Rovers picked the maximum points against Crewe at the Alexandra Stadium. Highly-rated playmaker Chuks Aneke was on for 77 minutes but coudn't stop the home side from losing 2-1 on Saturday.

A 23rd minute strike courtesy of Veton Berisha was all Viking needed to beat Odd one-nil on Sunday.George White Agwuocha was a 73rd minute substitute for the home side.

Ugonna Anyora's Haugesund got the maximum points at stake with a one-nil at Hønefoss. The fast rising ace was in the thick of the action for the whole 90 minutes.

The match between Lechia Gdansk and Jagiellonia Bialystok played at the PGE Arena Gdansk ended in a five-goal thriller. One-cap Super Eagles defender Ugo Ukah was introduced in the dying moments, to shore up the defence of Bialystok, who were 3-2 winners.

Spartak Moscow put two unreplied goals past Amkar Perm in the Russian Premier League match played on Sunday. AFCON winner Emmanuel Emenike was not dressed by Spartak.

Scotland - William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Dundee United and Celtic ended in a 7-goal thriller. Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose added another title to his cabinet, as he featured for the Glasgow side.

A late strike by substitute Manuel Trigueros ensured that Villarreal earned a 1-1 draw against ten-man Real Murcia. Super Eagles striker Ikechukwu Uche was also brought on to replace Gerard Moreno in the second half.

Sunderland gave their fans something to cheer with a 3-0 win over Newcastle at the St James´ Park. Tall striker Shola Ameobi was a second half substitute for the homers.


At the Wembley Stadium, Manchester City confirmed their superiority over Chelsea with a 2-1 win. Super Eagles star John Obi Mikel made way for Fernando Torres in the 66th minute. However, Victor Moses was an unused substitute.

RheinEnergie Stadion was the place to be when Cologne entertained Aalen and won one-nil. Sharp shooting attacker Tony Ujah lasted the length in the colours of Koln.

Ohi Anthony Omoijuanfo was part of the Lillestrom team that defeated Brann 2-0 on Sunday. The young midfielder was a late substitute.

A 22nd minute injury forced Dominic Chatto out of the league tie between Hacken and Djurgardens. However, his team-mates gave him something to cheer with a 4-0 win over Djurgardens.

Sukru Saracoglu Stadi hosted the league match between Fenerbahce and Eskisehirspor. A 53rd minute strike by Cristian was enough for the homers to get the 3 points at stake. Eagles captain Joseph Yobo was a trojan at the back playing a key role.

The match between Elazigspor and Istanbul Buyuksehir was decided by Volkan Yilmaz's 82nd minute strike. Simon Terwase Zenke fired blanks in the colours of Buyuksehir.

Thanh Hoa bowed down to the superior powers of Ha Noi T&T. One of the architects of the fall of the hosts was Samson Kayode Olaleye who netted an 80th minute strike. The match ended 3-1.

It was thriller at the MCH Arena, as FC Midtjylland rolled over AC Horsens winning 5-2. It was a show that saw the trio of Izunna Uzochukwu, Rilwan Hassan and Sylvester Igboun entertaining fans with their deft touches in midfield. Izu provided the assist that resulted in Salami's curtain raiser and Igboun netted his team's third goal. The low point of the match was Izunna's 40th minute injury. He was replaced by André Rømer in the 42nd minute of play. His compatriots were in the fray for the whole length.

At the TEDA Football Stadium, Qingdao Jonoon resisted the late fight back of Tianjin Teda to win 2-1. Former Kwara United midfielder Gabriel Melkam was in action for the visitors.

Goals in the 10th and 37th minute by Andre Alves and Bruno Aguiar ensured that Omonia Nicosia got the maximum points against AEK Larnaca in a Cyprus Championship match. Rasheed Alabi showed why he should be given a shot in the Super Eagles with a no nonsense show.

In a week 32 Belgium division two clash at the Kehrwegstadion, Alassane Diallo drew the first blood for Eupen when they welcomed KSV Oudenaarde. The home side were silenced when KSV equalised through Dempsey Vervaecke in the 18th minute of action.An own goal by Dieter De Wilde made the scoreline 2-1 before Anthony Bassey and Christian Kabasele rounded up the rout.

Kennedy Nwaganga was left on the bench for all the duration of the encounter which saw Beerschot lose 2-1 at home to Cercle Bruges. On the opposite side, former Enugu Rangers forward Michael Uchebo lasted the length.

Super Eagles midfielder Emmanuel Nosahare Igiebor was thrown into the fray in the 82nd minute of tantalising action. In the 89th minute he headed Pabon's cross into the net. The point moves Betis to sixth spot on 48 points, three points shy of a Champions League qualifying place.

Seyi Olajengbesi's Sandhausen were crushed 3-1 by visiting Braunschweig at the Hardtwaldstadion. The lanky man lasted the length.

At the 4 Eylül Stadi, the war between Michael Eneramo's Sivasspor and Ekigho Ehiosun's Genclerbirligi ended in a one-all draw. The energetic strikers were in the thick of the action and both lasted the duration.

A 72nd minute wonderful strike by Halil Altintop ensured that Trabzonspor got the maximum points against Orduspor at the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadi on Friday. Super Eagles star Yussuf Ayila played at the heart of Orduspor's defence.

At Lerkendal Stadion, IK Start forced Rosenborg to a one-all draw. The home lads took the lead through Tarik Elyounoussi in the 8th minute, while Start equalised after great work by Solomon James Owello set-up Espen Børufsen in the 87th minute. The former NPFL star got a 69th minute yellow card. The hosts didn't give John Chibuike a piece of the action.

The Moscow derby between Dinamo and CSKA ended in a boring goalless draw. Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa was utilised as a lone man upfront, as the league leaders pushed for an away win. He was booked in the 66th minute and lasted the duration. The match took place at the Arena Khimki.
