Eredivisie outfit in bumper deal with Shell

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd is partnering with the Youth Academy of Feyenoord Rotterdam Football Club of The Netherlands to help improve the football talents of the 16-year old NNPC/Shell Cup.

A three-man Feyenoord Rotterdam youth coaching team will be presented to the media and other football stakeholders on Wednesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, venue of the finals of the 16th edition of the championship.

SPDC Regional Communication Manager Philip Mshelbila said, “Building on the many successes of the NNPC/Shell Cup, we have entered this partnership with Feyenoord in demonstration of our commitment to giving values to our youth. The idea is to see players and coaches from all the schools that qualified for the semi-finals of the championship leave with life-changing experiences from this interaction with Feyenoord Rotterdam FC.”

Feyenoord was founded in 1908 and is the first Dutch club to win the European Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, as well as the UEFA Cup in 2002. It has so far won 14 Eredivisie titles, 11 KNVB Cups and two Johan Cruijff Shields at home, where it enjoys huge national support.

The club won the title of the best youth academy in The Netherlands for an unprecedented four years in a roll — 2010-2013. The football academy has produced players such as Robin van Persie, now playing with Manchester United.
