The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) 2012/2013 season will be an abridged one

The league, which was to have kicked off last year, has suffered a series of postponements due to some unresolved issues, rangering leadership squabbles to sponsorship rows, will now start on March 9 but not as a regular season.

"The league won't be a regular season as it used to be. We are considering an abridged league where we will have two groups and they will play 19 games each, then the top four will play a super four to know the champions. This is because of the delay and lateness and starting the league,” the official confirmed.

“That is the major item on the agenda we will discuss on today with the clubs at the draw."

NPL draw will be staged on today at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja to determine the fixtures for the forthcoming season.

Kano Pillars are the defending champions and they along with runners-up will represent Nigeria in this year’s CAF Champions League.
