KESHI EXPLAINED TO ME WHY HE RESIGNED-DAVID MARK

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi decided to quit after he was told he would get a foreign coach as boss, a top official has revealed.

Keshi sensationally quit after he led Nigeria to win a third Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday at the expense of Burkina Faso.

Nigeria Senate President David Mark, who represented the country’s President at Sunday’s final in Johannesburg, said Keshi told him he was asked to agree under an expartriate coach.

“I spoke to Stephen Keshi this morning and he confirmed to me that he actually said he has resigned,” said Mark.

“He said the reason is because there is too much interference. Before the final on Sunday there was a lot of pressure on him that he must accept foreign technical advisers and he said he is opposed to this because he has got all that it needs in this country and that there are Nigerians who can work with him and he doesn’t see the gain in bringing foreigners.”

There were speculations that several foreign coaches have been lined up to replace Keshi after he is sacked after the Nations Cup.

Keshi has been critical of “mediocre” foreign coaches in Africa, saying a lot of such coaches have no business working in Africa because they are simply not good enough.

‘Big Boss’ has since rescinded his decisions to step down after he was talked out of it by the country’s sports minister.
