Ex-Eagles coach tips Keshi's boys for success, warns the team not to underrate the Flames

Former Super Eagles Head Coach, Amodu Shuaibu is confident Super Eagles will beat the Flames of Malawi despite the mind game and psychological warfare employed by Belgian handler, Tom Saintfiet.

But the coach warned that the visitors should not be taken for granted.

He said the subtle warfare was all that the visitors got, going into the crucial game, adding that they have chosen to deploy it in the best way possible to see if it could upset the balance in the team ahead of the make or break clash.

“Anything is possible in football. It is mind game they are playing. But  what do you expect from the Malawians or the coach.

“He will come with psychological war as usual to try to throw some pressure or tension into the camp. But I think we have gone past that. We should be more experienced and mature to know that he is just playing a mind game.”

While he cautioned against any form of complacency, he said the Flames would be extinguished in Calabar, adding, “I do not see them as a threat if all is well in our camp.”

He therefore urged all concerned to play down the bonus issue that almost upsetted the team ahead of the Confederation Cup and implored the players to play despite the amount offered by the Nigeria Football Federation.

“I will like to urge all to play down the issue of the bonus; for obvious reasons. You and I know that $5000 is no small money. I am not saying that they cannot get more than that but if this is the position of the NFF for now since the players are not playing football because of the bonuses they get from the national team, we should appeal to them to be more matured not because of the NFF alone but because of their own image and the  nation,” he said.

He said that it does not add to the image of the players for them to come from abroad to cry over bonuses here.

He noted that most of these bonuses are shared out by the players here in the country and actually never depend on it.

“We can appeal to their conscience to see that the NFF does not exist of its own but is an arm of government of the country.”
