Edwin Okon: We gain experience, praises his wards

Nigeria’s interim coach, Okon Edwin Edem has praised his side's performance in the second of a two-game series played against Japan on Thursday.

The Rivers Angels NFF Fed Cup winning gaffer was contented after his side were defeated 2-0 by Japan in their second match of a two-game friendly series on Thursday morning at Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba.

“It was a good match and better than our first game [in Nagasaki]. I am pleased with our players’ performance,” he disclosed

“It was important for the players to get the real match feeling,” Okon said.

“Playing a game with some tension in this series should be good experience for our players. I hope it will help us develop our team next year and the year after,” he declared.

Okon commented: “It took a while before we started gaining momentum, but our aim is to go to the World Cup. How we are able to use the experience we’ve gained in these matches will be important.”

Meanwhile, Super Falcons will shift their focus to the 2014 African Women Championship qualifiers, as they have been pitched against Sierra Leone.

The first leg of the two-legged games will be played in Nigeria on 15th February, 2014, while the return leg will hold in Freetown on 29th February, 2014.
